Academic Excellence, Responsible Citizenship
Welcome to Citizens Academy Southeast, the third Citizens Academy in Cleveland! We opened our Southeast campus due to community support and demand for more high-quality schools like our founding Citizens Academy.
Citizens Academy Southeast is tuition-free and provides its students with a safe and nurturing environment. We offer smaller class sizes for literacy and math, personalized learning activities, and a focus on citizenship as well as academic excellence. CAS has an extended school day along with an after care enrichment program. The Citizens Academy model has a national reputation for quality, earning 4 consecutive “Excellent” and “Excellent with Distinction” ratings from the Ohio Department of Education, has been named a Blue Ribbon School from the United States Department of Education, and named an ODE “School of Honor”.
The mission of Citizens Academy Southeast is to produce learners who exemplify academic excellence and responsible citizenship.
Our seven virtues are responsibility, respect, perseverance, honesty, generosity, courage, and loyalty.
Virtues like responsibility and perseverance are key to our students’ success. They achieve academic excellence while learning to become responsible citizens.
Citizens Academy has developed a transformative school culture that is the foundation of our success. The Citizens Academy Way (The CA Way) is a set of high academic and behavioral expectations that promote a sense of ambition, personal responsibility, and a ‘no excuses’ attitude in all of our students. Students are expected to come to school on time, in uniform, and prepared to learn, and to treat themselves and others with respect at all times. We teach students that their behavior is their choice and that all choices have consequences.
Positive choices earn positive consequences and negative choices earn negative consequences. We give consequences in a nurturing manner to teach each student that we want them to succeed and are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that they succeed. Monthly citizenship assemblies culminate in the Citizen of the Month awards ceremony, where students who have exemplified good citizenship are recognized. The CA Way lays a strong foundation for our students to succeed in high school, college, and beyond

Engaging, Interactive Remote Learning
We know that remote learning takes a major commitment from families and scholars, and we’re here to make it as easy as possible while continuing to provide an excellent education.
We provide all of the technology, wifi accessibility, and tech-support needed to facilitate remote learning and we also offer grab-and-go meal kits each week to all scholars.
Citizens Academy Schools offer a variety of programs to students in our higher math and literacy blocks to extend their creative and critical thinking skills. Such programs have included:
- C.S.I. – Students solve a mystery by conducting a series of forensic tests. Students learn about genetics, the judicial system, and a variety of math and science skills.
We have after school tutoring for students looking for extra support with reading and math, as well as Homework Club for those who need a quiet place to finish homework. Additionally, we have an after school partnership with the Boys & Girls Club on Broadway, and provide transportation there after school every day.
Thanks to all the parents and family members that make up our PAC. All families welcome.

MEET THE PRINCIPAL!
I am so excited to be taking on the role as Principal at Citizens Academy Southeast for the 2020-2021 school year! I have been part of the Breakthrough family since 2013, and I am looking forward to this new adventure.
I started my career as a Kindergarten teacher at Village Prep Cliffs while I worked on a Master of Science in Elementary Education and Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. In 2016, I moved to Columbus where I taught third grade at KIPP Columbus Elementary before transitioning into leadership as a Dean of Instruction for the next two years. This year, I have served as a founding sixth-grade teacher and instructional coach at Citizens Leadership Academy Southeast, and I am so incredibly grateful to be able to lead as a continued part of this community. This summer, I will finalize a Master of Education in Public School Building Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.
