For which positions are you hiring?

A: Breakthrough Schools is hiring for a wide variety of positions. We are looking for general education and special education teachers, school leaders, school-based support staff, and network staff. We have teaching positions for grades Kindergarten to 8th grade, for both new and experienced teachers. Check our job board for all current positions.

What are the requirements for teaching at a Breakthrough school?

A: We are always looking for excellent teachers! We need smart, mission-driven, motivated individuals to make this vision a reality. Our teachers need to hold a valid OH teaching license. To learn more about the OH certification process, please visit the Ohio Department of Education website here.

What does the teacher selection process look like?

Step 1 – Online Application & Assessment

This is your first opportunity to tell us about yourself! When you complete the application, you will be asked to upload a resume and complete several short narrative response questions, including why you want to work in urban education and at one of our schools. Also, you will be asked to complete an online 25-minute TeacherInsight Assessment and provide three professional references.


Step 2 – Initial Interview

You may be asked to complete an initial interview either by phone or video conference.


Step 3 – School-Based Interview

Once the initial interview is complete, the hiring team will make selection decisions, and you may be invited to participate in a school-based interview with the school team.


Step 4 – Join the Team!

Upon completing the reference checks, if we are interested, we will make an offer contingent on successfully completing your background check. You will typically have about a week to get back to us with your decision.

My certification is not from Ohio — Do I need to take more tests? How do I transfer my certification?

A: You should visit the Ohio Department of Education website for more information about transferring an out of state license here.

Do I need a credential to teach at a Breakthrough School?

A: Yes, all Breakthrough Schools comply with any applicable state and federal laws, which means all of our teaching staff must hold a valid Ohio teaching license.

What is the experience and background of a typical Breakthrough teacher?

A: The experience and background of our teachers varies, however they all share common qualities and characteristics that can be found on our Careers Overview page.

Where can I find more information on the Breakthrough Schools' curriculum?

Each of our schools use slightly different curriculum that are aligned to Ohio state standards. You can find more information about each of their curriculums on the individual school websites.

What does the parent-school partnership look like at Breakthrough Schools?

A: Teachers and parents have the same goal: student success. Our schools partner with parents in many ways, such as coming to the school in the evenings for events like back-to-school night, report card nights, literacy nights and teacher appreciation week.
