WELCOME TO

CITIZENS ACADEMY GLENVILLE

Welcome to Citizens Academy Glenville, one of Cleveland's highest-performing non-profit, tuition-free elementary schools. Our school is free, public, and open to all students and families and has collectively been serving our community since 1999.

Academic Excellence, Responsible Citizenship

Together, our Citizens schools have developed a national reputation for their commitment to academic excellence and responsible citizenship. Our remarkable faculty and staff, board, parents, families, community members, and students work hard daily to make Citizens Academy Glenville among the best places in Cleveland to learn and grow as young students and citizens. If you have any questions or would like to come in for a visit, let us know!

Our Mission

The mission of Citizens Academy Glenville is to produce learners who exemplify academic excellence and responsible citizenship.

Our Values

Our seven virtues are responsibility, respect, perseverance, honesty, generosity, courage, and loyalty.

Our Approach

Virtues like responsibility and perseverance are key to our students' success. They achieve academic excellence while learning to become responsible citizens.

Innovative Academics & School Culture

Citizens Academy has developed a transformative school culture that is the foundation of our success. The Citizens Academy Way (The CA Way) is a set of high academic and behavioral expectations that promote a sense of ambition, personal responsibility, and a ‘no excuses’ attitude in all our students. Students are expected to come to school on time, in uniform, prepared to learn, and treat themselves and others respectfully. We teach students that their behavior is their choice and that all choices have consequences. Positive choices earn positive consequences, and negative choices earn negative consequences.

We give consequences in a nurturing manner to teach each student that we want them to succeed and are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure they succeed. Monthly citizenship assemblies culminate in the Citizen of the Month awards ceremony, where students who have exemplified good citizenship are recognized. The CA Way lays a strong foundation for our students to succeed in high school, college, and beyond.

About Agnes Aleobua

Agnes began her career in education with Teach for America in the Miami-Dade area. In 2009, she returned to her hometown of Detroit to serve as the founding principal of University YES Academy, a new charter school serving scholars in one of Detroit’s most impoverished neighborhoods. In 2012, Agnes was selected by TFA Indianapolis as a distinguished Principal Fellow.  Through the fellowship she completed her Masters in Educational Leadership through Columbia University’s Teachers College.  Her specialty has been leading teams in efforts to turn around previously under-served schools.

Among several areas of expertise, Agnes has been recognized specifically for her work bringing together teams to drive transformational school-level change. She is most proud of the work her team did in 2015, moving Indianapolis Public School 103, later renamed Phalen Leadership Academy @ 103 from a state grade of F to an A in two years. Since then, Phalen Leadership has maintained its A rating three years in a row.
