Vaccine Resources for Families

Breakthrough Families,

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer!  We are working hard as we prepare to welcome all of our staff and scholars back to school in person in August. We’re digging

deeply into the most recent health and safety guidance, and will be sharing more details over the next few weeks about our plans to protect the health and safety of our whole community while also enabling an enriching educational experience for all scholars.

One key strategy in protecting the health and safety of our whole community is encouraging everyone who is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine to become fully vaccinated. While we do not yet have complete data for our new staff, we are encouraged to share our estimate that 80% of our returning staff have received the vaccine and we understand that the higher the vaccination rate in our school community, the safer we are individually and collectively. Specifically, if you have a scholar who is 12 years old or older and who has not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine, we want to remind you that there is still time for your scholar to become fully vaccinated by the first day of school*.

The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and recommended by the CDC for all children who are 12 years and older.  You can find more information from the CDC about the vaccine for children and teens here. In addition, it is important to note that scholars who have been fully vaccinated will not be required to quarantine and stay home from school if they are exposed to COVID-19, unless they develop symptoms.

We are keeping a running list of available vaccination opportunities on our website, click the button to learn more!

If you have questions or need additional support accessing the vaccine for yourself, your middle school scholar, or other eligible members of your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out at tthornton@breakthroughschools.org

Wishing you and your family a safe, healthy, and happy rest of the summer!

Best,

*In order to be fully vaccinated, at least two weeks must have passed after the 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine (or single dose of Johnson and Johnson).  As children are currently only eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine, scholars need to receive the first dose by Monday, July 19th in order to be fully vaccinated by the start of school on August 23rd. In general, though, the sooner that scholars receive the vaccine the more protected they will be when school begins.
