FPO Newsletter: January 2023
Happy New Year from the Family Partnership Office!
New things are emerging for our scholars, and we eagerly await the new fruit that arises with the promise of winter’s recess and the hope of an early spring. While possessing the new can sometimes be uncertain, if we continue to align ourselves to what we know to be true about our scholars; they are exceptionally capable with limitless potential and will exceed our expectations every time. We recognize that we could do a better job at communicating the good stories emerging within every school building at Breakthrough and as one of our most valued and invested stakeholders (our families), we have a plan to be more intentional about how we communicate with you.
We are thankful for your voice. It informs us, helps us to vet our current practices and helps us to maintain a momentum of innovation, and ultimately makes us better. We look forward to a continued partnership in 2023.
Together we're better!
Family Survey Results Revealed
We are thrilled to share that 900 families responded to our Family Survey. This was record setting as responses doubled from 2021! 52% of families rated BPS as a 9 or 10 in satisfaction. We heard you say you want more effective communication with schools and teachers. You also want us to address your school safety concerns. Want to hear more? Tune in to January’s Go Live Session on Tuesday, Jan 17 at 6:30 PM to hear more details and to find out what scholars expressed when they were surveyed! |
Healthcare Career Exposure
Opportunities for Scholars
We continue to exude what it means to be collaborative here at Breakthrough Public Schools. When The Intro to Healthcare Careers – a partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, presented itself to us, we knew that multiple stakeholders would have to be engaged for this to work, and it did! In December, we welcomed 74 scholars who applied and were accepted from across our network of schools to participate in session one of this incredible enrichment and exposure to Health Careers. Our scholars received one-on-one interactions with members of the medical community. They experienced everything from learning how to suture wounds to using laparoscopic tools to perform less invasive surgeries. The program runs through Spring, and we look forward to providing updates as additional activities unfold. Stay tuned! |

Literacy is a Priority at Breakthrough
Lastly, as another year draws to a close, let’s reflect upon the excellent story unfolding for our scholars. Some are reading better than they were at the beginning of the school year. And let’s not forget about those non-academic wins as well. Some of our scholars are maturing, developing, and flexing their growth in self-regulation and civic engagement across all our schools. Even incremental growth is growth and for that, let’s continue to work together in a manner that centers what is best for kids as our North star!
