Family COVID Health and Safety Protocols

We are all so excited to welcome all of our scholars back to campus on August 23 (1st-8th grade) and August 25 (Kindergarten)!

I would like to share our Family COVID Health and Safety Protocols Guide, which contains more detail about our key COVID-19 mitigation strategies, as well as important information families need to know about how we will respond to cases of COVID-19 symptoms, exposure, or positive tests among our school community. We ask that you:

  • Review the guide below (linked in purple button) in detail.
  • Reach out to your scholar’s school or anyone on the Breakthrough team if you have any questions or would like any additional information.
  • Save the copy of this guide that will be sent home with all students as part of a COVID pack that will be distributed on the first day of school.

Masks

All scholars and staff are required to wear a mask while indoors.

Distancing

Classrooms will be set up to optimize spacing between scholars as much as possible.

Cleaning & Disenfection

High-touch surfaces will be disinfected daily in addition to our normal daily cleaning protocols.

Ventilation

We will be opening windows in classrooms and installing air purifiers in high-traffic shared spaces.

Health Screening

All families are expected to conduct daily at-home health screenings, including a temperature check.

Hand Hygine

All schools will have daily hand hygiene routines and adequate supplies of hand sanitizer.

Water Bottles

Water fountain spigots will be closed. Families will need to send their student with a water bottle every day to use with the bottle fillers, clearly labeled with their name.

Vaccines

All eligible staff and scholars are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the COVID-19 vaccine, in order to protect their own health and that of their family and community members.

Symptoms, Exposure, Postive Tests

If your scholar tests positive for COVID-19, has been tested for COVID-19 but has not yet received results, or has been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 please complete this form.

I would also like to thank you all for everything you have done - and will do - to collectively uphold our commitment to keeping our school communities healthy and safe.  While we are starting this school year in the face of higher levels of COVID-19 community spread than we had hoped for, our best line of defense remains strict adherence to doing the things we know matter most to prevent in-school transmission.

The actions we all take individually and together every day matters, and by partnering together we can make this a safe and successful return to in-person instruction for all of our scholars and staff.

With gratitude,

Tyler Thornton
