Our Application & Interview Process

Are you ready to join us?

As the highest rated network of non-profit, public charter schools in Cleveland, our staff members are held accountable for high expectations in order to deliver on the promise of providing all students with excellent educational opportunities.

Our rigorous selection process is designed to identify teachers, leaders, school operations and network office team members who are committed to doing whatever it takes so the students of Cleveland receive what they deserve – the very best education possible.

We encourage applicants to learn as much as possible about our network of schools through browsing websites and checking us out on social media. You’ll get a chance to learn about what makes us unique and get a sense of which model best fits your educational philosophy.

Step 1 – Online Application

Complete the online application: This is your first opportunity to tell us about you!  When you complete the application, you will be asked to upload a resume and complete several short narrative response questions, including why you want to work in urban education and at one of our schools.

Step 2 – Initial Interview

You will also be asked to complete an initial interview and we commonly use a digital-based initial interview. The digital interview is a recorded video interview that allows you to share more about your experience in an innovative format where you can highlight your experiences while benefiting from the convenience of completing the interview during a time that fits your schedule. You will need a computer and a webcam or a mobile device.

Step 3 – In-Person Interview

Once the initial interview is complete, the hiring team will review your interview and you may be invited for an in-person interview at the school campus. While our schools/network office may have a slightly different interview process, the in-person interview typically includes interviews with school or operations leaders, classroom observations, teaching a demo lesson (teaching candidates), and competency-based assessments.

Step 4 – Reference Checks

As part of our selection process, we may request three professional references from your post-interview. Ideally, two of the references should be from a current or former supervisor.

Step 5 – Join the Team!

Upon completing the reference checks, if we are interested, we will make an offer contingent on the successful completion of your background check. You will typically have about a week to get back to us with your decision.

Tips for Completing Your Application

Do your research.

We are looking for people who have clearly done research when applying. The work you put into researching us really comes through in how you present yourself in the interview process.  Research can include talking to current employees or scheduling a campus visit.

Take the application questions seriously.

A majority of the people who do not get offered an interview do not take the narrative portion of the application seriously enough. Candidates either do not put in the necessary effort or they fail to truly answer the question.

Have an honest resume.

Make sure your resume truly reflects the things you have accomplished in your career. Many times, candidates are cheating themselves when crafting their resume. We want to see your accomplishments and your leadership. Make sure those things shine through when writing your resume.
