Three Breakthrough middle schools join the technology initiative from The Verizon Foundation and Digital Promise

E Prep Cliffs, E Prep Woodland Hills, and Citizens Leadership Academy will join the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools network directed by Digital Promise. Through a competitive grant application and screening process, Breakthrough was invited to participate beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. The schools are the first in Ohio to participate in this initiative, as well as the only public charter schools in the 2018 cohort.

Launched in 2012, the Verizon Innovative Learning initiative equips students and teachers with personal iPads and Verizon 4G LTE connectivity, giving them 24/7 access to the internet for learning in the classroom, at home and beyond. The initiative also provides a full-time, dedicated technology coach to train teachers on effectively integrating technology into all aspects of learning, across all subjects.

As of today, there are over 4 million jobs in science, technology engineering and math fields. Verizon has committed over $160 million over the past 5 years to building and sustaining programs across the country that provide free technology, access and immersive, hands-on learning to students and teachers, particularly in underserved and minority communities.

Breakthrough's new middle schools, E Prep Willard and Citizens Leadership Academy East, will both be eligible for this program after they grow to serve students through 8th grade, and will apply for the same level of support as the recipient schools.
