BPS Weekly Family Message: RLCs

RLC_Willard31

Dear Breakthrough Families,

This week’s Family Update is about Remote Learning Centers (RLCs). Here are the updates about this no-cost program, available only to enrolled Breakthrough families:

  • RLCs will continue to operate while school is virtual
  • We are working to expand our capacity to serve more students and families
  • We have a few immediate openings available for enrolled families
  • We plan to have even more openings in January after the holidays

If you are in need of a no-cost, out-of-home place for your child to do their virtual Remote Learning, please let us know by filling out the BPS RLC Interest Form below. If you expressed interest earlier in the year and we were not able to accommodate, we now may have room starting in January. Also, if you know of a family who is not enrolled at Breakthrough, but might be interested in enrolling and also attending an RLC, please let them know about our upcoming availability in January.

If you have any other questions, we’ve included our Frequently Asked Questions below.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Remote Learning Centers (RLCs)?

RLCs are safe, supervised out-of-home locations where Breakthrough scholars can do their remote learning.

Why is Breakthrough offering RLCs?

We are working to support our families in as many ways as we can during these challenging times. We have designed RLCs to provide safe, supervised, and distraction-free places for scholars to learn.

Who is eligible for RLCs?

Any enrolled Breakthrough family is eligible to sign up for an RLC; however, spaces are limited due to social distancing and other health and safety considerations. Current families who are interested should complete the interest form below and will then be contacted to complete registration.

Not enrolled at Breakthrough? Complete an application here.

*If demand exceeds capacity, preference will be given to scholars without an adult at home during the school day.

What are the hours for the RLCs?

Scholars should plan to arrive at school between 7:30AM-8AM.  Dismissal begins at 4PM. Scholars enrolled at the RLC are expected to attend every day for the full day.

Where are the RLCs located?  Can I pick which RLC to attend?

RLCs are operated at six of our Breakthrough campuses.  Except in very limited circumstances, scholars will attend the RLC at their home campus.  Families of Citizens Leadership Academy scholars should note that the CLA RLC is operating from our Citizens Academy Campus.

Is transportation provided?

No. Parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation.

My child has an IEP.  Will the RLCs provide additional support services?

The Breakthrough Exceptional Student Education team is responsible for working with school staff and partners to ensure that all exceptional students receive the services and support they need during School at Home.  This is coordinated separately from the Remote Learning Centers, and Remote Learning Center staff are not responsible for providing specific support services that may be included in a scholar’s IEP.  If you have questions about your scholar’s support service plan, we encourage you to reach out directly to your school’s principal for additional information.

How do I register for RLCs?

Complete our RLC Interest Form and a member of the Breakthrough or ODA staff will follow up to help you complete the required registration packet.  Please note that grades at some campuses are currently full and your scholar may be added to the waitlist.  We are actively managing the waitlist and will contact you as soon as a spot is available.
