Weekly Family Update

Greetings CLA-EAST Families!

It’s always nice to get away for a few days however I am ready to get back to teaching and learning. I think for many of us, the student-led conference served as a wake-up call. With the close to the first trimester coming quickly my message to all scholars is simple, “there are 19 days to get all A’s”. Not every scholar will earn all A’s (this trimester) but it shouldn’t stop anyone from trying. Just as the saying goes, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” If our scholars are aiming for something high, even if they do not achieve it they will still be better off than where they started.

This week there are several update/changes to the after school schedule. There will be no after-school clubs this week. It is our shut-down week for clubs. Clubs will resume the following week with new offerings and some returning clubs. Scholars will get the sign-up sheet on Wednesday. If your scholars’ after-school club is no longer being offered, he/she will be able to sign-up for a new club. If your scholars’ after-school club is still being offered, you are not required to sign him/her up. Simply go to the afterschool club once they resume.

After school tutoring for scholars who have fallen below acceptable achievement level will begin tomorrow. Tutoring is after school on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm. It is required for those who have previously notified by the school administration.

October is here and so is Bully-Awareness Month! All month long scholars will engage in conversation, role-play and activities surrounding the epidemic of bullying. Please consider joining your scholars’ crew during the month of October at 11:55 am Monday thru Thursday.

As always, you are invited to join us for community meetings each and every Friday from 8:00 am to 9:00 am in the gym. We are always looking for guest speakers, so if you or anyone you know is interested in addressing our scholars with a motivation message, please email Mr. Shahid at anwar.shahid@citizensleadership.org. I’m looking forward to another great week…let’s go TIGERS!

Yours in Education,

Ricardo Franklin, Sr.
