Weekly Family Updates
Greetings CLA-EAST Families!
Happy Easter to all who celebrate! I hope you enjoyed the weekend despite having so much rain. However, after the rain comes the sunshine.
We are halfway through the final trimester of the school year. Yes, there are only 6 weeks remaining in the 2018-2019 school year. With that being said it is time to “flip the switch” to go mode. The end of the school year is an extremely busy time for us at CLA-EAST. With state testing, celebration of learning prep, and end of the year trips, there is so much to get done.
We are very proud of the toughness and grit our scholars showed during English State Testing last week. This week will serve as a break/active prep week for the Math State Testing with is next week. We have made a slight change to the testing days for the Math Test. Testing days will be Tuesday, April 30th and Wednesday, May 1st. This change was made to accommodate the higher attendance we have on Tuesday and Wednesday each week.
This week we will be notifying scholars and their families of their eligibility to participate at the end of the year spring trips. As a reminder, both grades will be taking overnight camping trips. A copy of the family letter can be found on our website (via this link Spring Trips 2019!). The letter outlines the locations, dates, times and most importantly the requirements for participation. I urged you to sit with your scholar and discuss the trip details. Parents are not permitted to attend the trips.
Lastly, If you have not already done so, please take the time to complete your re-enrollment by logging in to your SchoolMint account or call the schools main office and speak with Ms. Scott.

| 6TH GRADE | 7TH GRADE | |
| MATH | This week scholars will focus on preparing for the Math State Test next week. We will review previously released state test questions before playing various games to conclude the week. | Scholars will be working on State Math test review and ensuring they are prepared to finesse the test. |
| SCIENCE | Scholars will continue working on cells. They will work with digital microscopes to look at the differences in the plant and animal cells. | Scientist will be working on Biome posters and continuing Math in Science to get prepared for the Math State Test next week. |
| ENGLISH | Scholars will begin their unit in poetry and begin a new novel, “Home of the Brave”. A story about a refugee’s life in America. | Scholars will begin reading their new novel, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. This week they will focus on how the authors tone and use of language impacts the story. |
| SOCIAL STUDIES | Scholars will continue their unit on human rights and migration, studying why people often leave their homes and seek refuge in another. | Scholars will begin to crate their article/stories for their COL project. Scholars will take meaningful and calculated steps to ensure they are creating a professional product. |
