Yellow Bus Applications Update
Yellow Bus Applications Now Open for SY 25-26.
New this year: Community Bus Services will be our transportation provider.
You must meet the following requirements (set by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District) to be eligible:
- Fully enrolled as a K-8th-grade scholar for the 25-26 School Year at one of our five campuses
- Reside in the city of Cleveland (Proof of Residence may be requested if the address indicated on the application is different than what we have on file)
- Live more than 1 mile from the school in which your child is enrolled. Note: If your child is not enrolled in the closest Breakthrough School, or lives in a permanent residence that does not have a route near their house, they may not be eligible and instead qualify for payment in place of.

What is the deadline to apply for yellow bus transportation? When will route information be available? When can my child(ren) begin riding?
Starting May 20, 2025 we will accept Yellow Bus Applications for the school year 2025-2026. Applications for each request window close at 3:00 PM
If you are transferring between BPS schools or if you are a new scholar enrolled at our schools, your yellow bus application will not be processed until after your child is fully enrolled at their transferred campus or new campus. This means if you submit an application within a given window below, there may be a delay. Yellow bussing is not guaranteed for the first days of school.

Community Bus Service Dispatch
Families should call 440-278-4622 Option 4 to check on the status of their child(rens)’ bus.
Daily Ridership
Your child will be placed on the bus each afternoon, starting on the first day of ridership. If you would like your child(ren) to remain off the bus on any given day, you will need to call the Front Office of the school in which your child is enrolled by 2:15 PM to make a transportation change.
Yellow Bus Removal
Please call the front office of the school in which your child is enrolled if you would like your child(ren) to be removed from the bus.
Bus Stop Change Requests
If your child(ren) are routed to a yellow school bus and you have safety concerns about the provided stop, you can fill out the Yellow Bus Stop Change Request Form to see if your child(rens)’ stop can be changed. CBS will review the request and contact you with a final decision within five business days. Note: This form is NOT for a change of address. If you have a change of address, fill out a new application and select “Address change.”
Family Concerns Reporting Form
If your child(ren) are routed to a yellow school bus and you have a concern you would like to report, you can fill out the Transportation Family Concerns Reporting Form. Community Bus Services will review the concern and follow up with you within 24 hours.
Information for Ineligible Riders
If you do not meet the eligibility requirements, you may qualify for Payment in Lieu.
Payment in Lieu compensates families of students who do not meet CMSD’s residency/distance requirements. If you reside in the city of Cleveland, you must fill out this form and submit it to the school front office in which your child is enrolled by end of day May 15, 2026. You will also need to submit a copy of an updated proof of residency and photo ID. Accepted forms are on page 2 of the payment in lieu form. If you reside in a city other than Cleveland, please contact the transportation department of the district in which you reside.
