Principal Letter
Tuesday, February 4, 2014
Dear CLA Families,
The 2013-2014 school year is flying by! As we enter February, we have a lot of exciting items to celebrate both academically and culturally. Students worked incredibly hard to plan and implement Spirit Week, the Valentine’s Day Dance, and an upcoming CLA Winter Olympics. However, more importantly we are continuing the CLA tradition of planning and implementing a Black History Month Guest Speaker Series.
Attached to this letter is a calendar of events that will inform you of when each activity/guest speaker will be coming to CLA. Our highlight is having Councilman TJ Dow come to speak on February 10; most recently he created and implemented The Dow Plan, a comprehensive plan that will keep the community moving in the right direction. The plan focuses on creating programming for seniors, youth and making a safe and enjoyable community for ward 7 residents. We encourage you to attend this presentation along with all others!
Lastly, we are beginning the countdown to the Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA). As noted on the school calendar, next week is our third round of Interim Exams in math, reading and science (8th grade). The Interims will contain a variety of multiple choice questions (1 point each), extended response questions (4 points), and short answer questions (2 points); all Interim Exams will be given in a 2 ½ hour block beginning promptly at 8:30 am.
We are extremely excited to see and share the growth our students make throughout the course of the year. Please continue pushing your child to do his or her best work on all homework assignments and continue encouraging your scholar to read all directions and answer all questions completely. Also be sure to make sure your scholars:
- Get plenty of rest during Interim Week.
- Attend school every day, on time.
- Eat a good breakfast that will give them energy for the assessment (will be served at school from 7:15 – 7:35 a.m.)
