Family Weekly Updates
January 29—February 2, 2018
I want to say thank you for making this school year the magical ride it’s been thus far. Although we are far from being finished, we’ve covered a lot of ground and traveled so far. This week we’ve challenged all of your scholars to find one area they see as a weakness and to push themselves to make it stronger. It’s never a surprise to me when a scholar comes to me and say’s, “Mr. Franklin, I got an A on my quiz” or wants to show me how proud of themselves they are for receiving a good progress report. It’s in those moments that I feel the reward from the work all of us do to educate our young people. As we continue to grow, I ask that you the parents, continue to push us and challenge us.
Yours in Education,
Ricardo Franklin Sr.
Founding Principal
Academic Updates
This week in Math, your scholars will continue their work on surface area coordinates as a section in the current geometry unit. We are all excited to see their completed volume cities. They will be taking a unit test next Tuesday, February 7th.
In Social Studies, they are wrapping up a unit on the four ancient civilizations. This week is a review week as they prepare for a unit test next Monday, February 5th.
In Science, your scholars are working on classifying animals through symmetry and cladograms and also preparing to take a quiz on Wednesday, January 31st.
In ELA, they are learning how to use textual evidence to support influence about a text. They are well into their second novel of the school year. They are currently reading the novel, Wonder. An amazing story of courage, strength, and acceptance. We are also looking for parent volunteers as guest readers. If you would like to come and read with our scholars, please call the school to schedule your time!
School Culture Updates
This weeks crew lessons will focus on RESPECT. As a result of survey responses from students and staff, respect was one of the major behavioral concerns displayed by students. We will spend time over the next few weeks discussing and practicing various elements of respect. I invite all parents to come and join their scholar’s crew this week from 7:45am—8:15am. Our Black History Month programming will begin on Monday, February 5th during crew and research for a wax museum display in their Outdoor Leadership class. I will share the days and times of your scholar’s presentations next week. If you or someone you know has a unique perspective on black history and would like to share your story please call the school to make arrangements.
We are looking for volunteers to help with next months Family Game Night sponsored by the PAC.
Lastly, parents all are always welcome to join us for community meeting every Friday from 8:00am—9:00am in the gym.
