Weekly Family Update

Greetings CLA-EAST Families!

I hope everyone took time this weekend to enjoy the sunshine with family and friends. The springtime is known as a time for a fresh start; cleaning out closets, basements and all the old things that keep us living in the past. The freshness of spring brings hope to those who may have falling behind on their New Year’s goals. For all of us at CLA-EAST, it’s a time for us to refocus our efforts to live our motto, “Education Is Urgent”.

On Friday, last week, more than 25 scholars received recognition for their academic achievements for the second trimester. Scholars who earned perfect attendance, merit roll, honor roll, and high honors were called before their peers and parents to receive their awards. The 25+ scholars marked the highest total of individual students to receive honors awards in a single trimester at CLA-EAST. If you still have not yet received your report card, please contact the main office.

TESTING: This week scholars will be taking their NWEA READING assessment on Monday (18th) and Tuesday (19th). They will also be taking the NWEA MATH assessment on Wednesday (20th) and Thursday (21st). This assessment measures the amount of growth from the beginning of the school year to the end. It is extremely important that everyone arrive at school on time. Scholars who arrive at school after 8:00 am will be unable to test. Please call the schools main office if you feel your scholar(s) will be late for school on any testing day.

The month of March is Academic growth month. We will be celebrating all scholars who show an increase in their achievement during each week. Scholars will be in competition with themselves to show improvements of 5% or more each in their classes. By increasing their grades by a total of 20% or more by the end of the month our scholars can improve one whole letter grade or better! Each week scholars who meet the goal of 5% growth in a class will earn an opportunity for prizes.

After school tutoring this week will be Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm. To avoid late pickup fees please make sure your scholar is picked up by 4:30 pm. Due to spring break, there will be no Saturday Academy on March 23rd.

Lastly, Re-enrollment is going on now. If you have not already done so, please take the time to complete your re-enrollment by logging in to your SchoolMint account or call the schools main office and speak with Ms. Scott.

I’m looking forward to another great week…let’s go TIGERS!

Yours in Education,

Ricardo Franklin, Sr.

Testing Tip #3, for parents

Math:

  • If you have a moment where a calculator is needed, let your child do the math to get used to using this tool, which is permissible for at least half the math state test.

Reading/Writing:

  • Your child will not become a better reader without reading! Hold them to reading for 20 minutes at home each day, and talk with them about what they read. Do not assume that just because your child can read the words on the page, that he or she is truly reading and comprehending. Ask them about what they’re reading to make sure!
