Breakthrough Start 2020

Family Attendance | SEPTEMBER 15, 2020

Dear Breakthrough Families -

We are all so excited to welcome you and your scholars back for the 2020-21 school year!  While the start of the school year certainly looks different, our leaders and staff have spent all summer working hard to make sure we can provide an excellent educational experience regardless of the circumstances.

We know you’ve had a lot of new information to digest over the last few weeks, but wanted to send a dedicated communication about how we will approach attendance for the duration of remote learning.  All of our attendance procedures are grounded in Ohio Department of Education policies and guidance. Please read the overview below and let your principal or teacher know if you have any questions.

  • Attendance is just as critical during remote learning as it is during in-person instruction.
  • Our remote learning program is designed around scholars fully participating in all live/synchronous and independent work/asynchronous sessions. Scholars should log into and participate in as many live sessions as possible.  If a scholar does need to miss a live session, an asynchronous make up alternative will be provided.
  • Instead of taking attendance once per day, teachers will be taking attendance during every course period. To be considered present, a scholar must log on to each and every course throughout the day or complete any make-up work associated with any missed class time. A scholar will be marked absent if they do not log on during the first half of the course.
  • All make-up work for the week must be complete by 3pm on Friday in order for a scholar to receive attendance credit.
  • A scholar can still complete make up work after the 3pm Friday deadline, but that will only impact their grade for that class and not their attendance.
  • The schedule for your individual scholar will be provided directly by your school. If you have not yet received a schedule, please contact your school’s front office.

Having tech issues that are making engagement or attendance challenging? Check out last week's message with helpful tech tips here or call our Tech Support at (216) 539-2100.

We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and patience as we navigate this school year together.  If you have any questions about this communication or any other aspect of your scholar’s school experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your principal, teacher, or front office staff.
