REMOTE LEARNING AT CLAE AND EPWH
Frequently Asked Questions
Remote Learning
CLAE and EPWH will use the remote learning platforms Schoology and Zoom. Teachers may also use Google Classroom, i-Ready, Nearpod, and other software to assist in teaching. All software will be accessible via the scholar’s Chromebook provided on loan by Breakthrough.
Â
We have streamlined the process for logging on to remote learning platforms. If you are experiencing technical difficulties, you can call the Breakthrough Call Center at (216) 539-2100. The Call Center hours are currently Monday through Friday, 8 am to 11 am during school days; we hope to be able to expand these hours soon. Hours will be posted on our Home Tech Support Page, which also has tech support articles that may be helpful.
CLAE and EPWH teachers will communicate with families via Remind if a scholar has not logged on for remote learning.
Yes, CLAE AND EPWH will still offer remote learning classes if a teacher is absent. We will assign a Breakthrough teacher to monitor the class.

Diverse Learners
Students who receive full-time Extension Room support will continue to attend school in-person in order to meet their needs and receive their mandated services. Speech therapy, Occupational therapy, and Counseling will be provided remotely through Zoom. Families should look out for an email or call from their scholar’s provider to coordinate a time for these services to take place. Students who receive co-teaching and/or academic intervention will continue to receive those services by a certified special education teacher within a remote, Zoom setting. Even through this remote structure, we are committed to providing your child with the most personalized education possible.
High School Placement Counseling
Mr. Reginald Shumpert is our high school placement coordinator. He will continue to meet with 8th grade students via zoom. Mr. Shumpert successfully placed last year’s 8th-grade scholars at their respective high schools. To contact Mr. Shumpert, parents can email him by clicking here.
Social Emotional Learning
Schools will continue to offer social and emotional learning into the schedule through specific blocks of time dedicated to social aspects.
Transportation
At this time, Preps Willard and Citizens Hampden are the only Breakthrough campuses that offer bus services with capacity to add new riders. Families seeking transportation should complete a transportation interest survey (info here). Once the survey is complete, we will be able to submit your request to our bus company to determine if you are eligible.
School Transfers
A few of our schools have spaces to enroll additional students that will not cause overcrowding.
Meals
The state of Ohio has extended its pandemic-assistance P-EBT benefits this year. Families with children enrolled in a school that has transitioned to remote learning will qualify for P-EBT. Once a month, families would receive a cash payment directly from the state of Ohio to help cover meal expenses. More information will be coming soon. Please note, information is submitted to the state once a month, so there is a four- to six-week lead time in between benefits.
If waiting for P-EBT assistance will create a gap in food access for your scholar, please reach out to the main office so that we can help connect you with alternative resources.
After School Activities
Open Doors Academy (ODA) will continue to provide after-school programming to participating scholars, with limited spots available for additional participants. If you are interested in seeing if a spot is available, please contact the ODA Breakthrough Program Manager, Stephanie Budd, at SBudd@odacle.org or (216) 972-0641.
Schools may choose to offer additional after-school programming and activities, as staffing permits and in accordance with our health and safety protocols. More information about these opportunities will be provided to families as they are available.
