CEO Announcement

November 8, 2023

Dear Families and Community Members,

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew M. McRae as the new Chief Executive Officer of Breakthrough Public Schools.

Many of you are familiar with Andrew, who has served as Chief Academic Officer since 2019. During his tenure at Breakthrough, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and a strong commitment to our mission. As CEO, Andrew’s vision is to continue building a high-performing network of student and family-centered schools that set the standard for joy, love, and academic excellence. He aims to leverage the collective wisdom, talent, and values-aligned leadership skills of the Breakthrough team to build a better Breakthrough, strategically and systematically.

Andrew Mccrae

We want to thank the search committee for their time and thoughtful insights as we made this important decision, which was especially difficult given the outstanding candidates who sought to lead Breakthrough Schools. This interest and enthusiasm are a testament to the good work that we are doing at Breakthrough, the community we have built to support our scholars and alumni, and the dedication and outstanding performance of our staff. We are excited about the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead.

Andrew stood out in this strong field of candidates due to his demonstrated abilities to improve student outcomes, lead teams effectively, and develop and implement effective strategic plans to deliver mission-aligned results. He also has the valuable perspective and practical experience of a teacher, a Teach for America Corps Member, a school principal, and an executive director. Andrew earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, Houston, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Hampton University.

Currently, Andrew is a Fellow in The Broad Center’s Fellowship for Public Education Leadership at Yale University, an executive leadership program for senior-level public education leaders from across the country who are dedicated to strengthening public school systems and the communities they serve. His ongoing dedication to personal and professional growth in the field of education and his deep knowledge of public charter school education will serve Breakthrough Schools well as we begin this next chapter.

Over the next several weeks, Andrew will be visiting schools, engaging with educators, connecting with students and families, and more to gain perspective in his new role. Please look for opportunities to connect with Andrew in the coming days.

In the meantime, please join us in congratulating Andrew. Thank you for your continued support for Breakthrough Public Schools and, most importantly, our scholars. Together, we will help our scholars reach their full potential and have a positive impact on our community and the world.

Sincerely

da
