Weekly Family Update

Greetings CLA-EAST Families!

I hope everyone took time this weekend to enjoy the sunshine with family and friends. Spring is finally here…at least we all hope.

Last week our scholars wrapped up their SLO assessments in Art, Physical Education, and Outdoor Leadership. This week we will continue with our end of the year exams with the Science SLO on Tuesday, April 9th. Both 6th and 7th grades will be taking the Science SLO during their scheduled science class block. They will be given the class period to finish the exam. Please make sure your scholar is well rested and to school on time for breakfast, or eats at home. Our slogan for testing 2019 is, “finesse the test!”

Last week, our scholars also took part in several field experience learning opportunities. The 7th grade girls participated in the Girl Power event at the Cleveland Public Library main branch. The keynote speaker, Karyn Parsons provided the girls with a great motivational message along with signed copies of an upcoming publication. The 7th grade boys took park in a boys retreat at the school with the male staff. They enjoyed physical activities, a history lesson on the black race and motivational messages from their teachers. The 6th grade scholars were scheduled to attend the Natural History Museum, however due to a scheduling issue with transportation we had to reschedule their fieldwork. They will be taking this trip during the first week of May.

The big news of the week came on Friday when scholars learned the initial details for their end of the year trips. Both grades will be taking overnight camping trips. A letter came home on Friday outlining the locations, dates, times but most importantly the requirements for attending the trip. I urged all scholars to sit down with you and have a discussion about the trip. If you did not receive a letter from your scholar you can read more about it on the school website Spring Trips 2019!

Lastly, If you have not already done so, please take the time to complete your re-enrollment by logging in to your SchoolMint account or call the schools main office and speak with Ms. Scott.

I’m looking forward to another great week…let’s go TIGERS!

Yours in Education,

Ricardo Franklin, Sr.
