Weekly Family Update

Greetings CLA-EAST Families!

I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend with family and friends. I’m extremely excited for our school this week with major events going on. Monday is the kickoff to the testing season as scholars will be taking their Social Studies SLO. 7th grade will be testing on Monday and 6th grade on Wednesday. The student learning objective (SLO) assessments are designed to test individual growth from the beginning of the year until now. These scores will give us a clear indication of how well our teachers are working with our scholars.

On Friday, we will be having the Trimester 2 Honor Awards presentations during the community meeting, 8:00 am – 9:00 am. Scholars will be recognized for perfect attendance, merit roll, honor roll, and high honors. Scholars, who will be recognized, will receive notification on Monday of their award.

Trimester 2 report cards were mailed home on Friday. If you have not received your scholar report card in the mail, please contact the main office for more information.

The month of March is Academic growth month. We will be celebrating all scholars who show an increase in their achievement during each week. Scholars will be in competition with themselves to show improvements of 5% or more each in their classes. By increasing their grades by a total of 20% or more by the end of the month our scholars can improve one whole letter grade or better! Each week scholars who meet the goal of 5% growth in a class will earn an opportunity for prizes.

After school tutoring and Saturday academy for select scholars is now in session. Saturday Academy is February 23 – April 27th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, and afterschool tutoring is February 26 – April 25th from 3:45 – 4:30 (Tuesday/Thursday after school). If you are unsure if your scholar is to attend Saturday Academy, please contact the main office.

Lastly, Re-enrollment is going on now. If you have not already done so, please take the time to complete your re-enrollment by logging in to your SchoolMint account or call the schools main office and speak with Ms. Scott.

I’m looking forward to another great week…let’s go TIGERS!

Yours in Education,

Ricardo Franklin, Sr.

Testing Tip #2, for parents

Math:

  • If you have a moment where a calculator is needed, let your child do the math to get used to using this tool, which is permissible for at least half the math state test.

Reading/Writing:

  • Your child will not become a better reader without reading! Hold them to reading for 20 minutes at home each day, and talk with them about what they read. Do not assume that just because your child can read the words on the page, that he or she is truly reading and comprehending. Ask them about what they’re reading to make sure!
