Ready Set Go 2019: Summer Week 6
Hello,
I have heard from many of you that you are already getting ready for the start of school. The preparations include getting uniforms shirts, school supplies, and new book bags. If you have already started or if you are waiting until the day before your scholar’s first day I want to share two tips that someone shared with me several years ago. First, there are a lot of organizations in Cleveland that help families and students get ready for back to school. This year Breakthrough Schools is partnering with Z107.9 to host the Braids & Fades back to school event on Sunday, July 28th. Our kindergarten through eighth grade scholars will be able to come out for a day of fun and go home with a free haircut or braids. There will even be school supplies while supplies last. We are not the only ones helping scholars get ready. The City of Cleveland will also host a Back to School Fair on Saturday, August 3rd at the Cleveland Public Auditorium. The Friendly Inn Settlement will also have a Back to School Rally on Monday, August 5th. The Breakthrough Schools Enrollment team will be at both of these events so stop by and see us. My second tip for you is that if you do have to purchase supplies remember that the weekend of August 2nd through August 4th is the sales tax holiday in Ohio. During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
- Clothing priced at $75 per item or less;
- School supplies priced at $20 per item or less; and
- School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.
I hope this information helps to get you and your scholar ready for the first day.
