CLA – September 14 Incident Letter
Dear parents,
This letter is to inform you about a security incident that we had this morning. Our school is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with our parents when safety issues arise.
This morning around 11:15, CLA received a call from a local community member reporting gun shots in the area. The report did not indicate the location or direction of the shots fired; however, we responded by issuing a code yellow.
During a code yellow, restrooms and hallways are cleared, all doors are confirmed to be locked, all of CLA’s students are accounted for, and no unknown visitors are allowed to enter the building. Two classes were outside with their teachers, and they were immediately brought back into the school building. A call was made to Cleveland’s Third District Police Department, Cleveland Police Dispatch, and the Breakthrough Schools Director of Safety and Security for advisement and further instructions. Additionally, every member of CLA’s staff was informed of the code yellow and instructions were reiterated.
We remained in code yellow with tighter security until we were contacted by the police in the early afternoon and they informed us it was safe to resume normal school operations.
Sometimes code yellow situations can frighten students. Please discuss this situation with your children and let us know if follow-up is needed at CLA. Counselors are available for students if necessary.
Please feel free to contact Citizens Leadership Academy at 216-229-8185 or email us at Sydney.Gruhin@citizensleadership.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Davis Karousis, Director of Operations
and the CLA Administration
