CLA Families

September 5, 2014,

Dear CLA Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in September already and finishing up the third week of school! This week had a lot of exciting events taking place; our 8th grade students attended the Breakthrough High School Fair, eighth graders completed fieldwork about Cleveland bridges, and we launched our after -school clubs. We know it was a busy week, and next week is looking to be just as busy and exciting.

With this letter, your scholars are receiving their first progress reports. We appreciate your patience as we have worked through a number of challenges with the new grade book system. On the progress report you will see the subject at the top, followed by the overall grade. Below that you will see the list of assignments entered and the specific grade. At the bottom of the page, you will see the breakdown grade percentage between Mastery (75%) and Habits of Scholarship (25%).  As you review your scholar’s grades, if you have any questions you are encouraged to contact your child’s teacher who is your main touch-stone.

Certain classes piloted the MAP test this past week; the rest of the classes will be taking them this coming week. This is a nationally normed assessment that the students will take in the fall, winter, and spring. We will be tracking individual student growth, as well as growth as a school. This assessment is very similar to the Next Generation Assessment (that replaces the OAA) and will also provide the students with practice taking assessments on the computer. Please ensure that your scholar is receiving plenty of sleep at night and eats a good breakfast!

Lastly, just a friendly reminder about some upcoming events:

  • Curriculum Night –      Wednesday, September 10th at 5:30 (please see purple flyer for      details)
  • Spirit and Pride Orders DUE – The first shipment will be mailed on Wednesday, September 10th.      Orders will arrive in October and we will have a FREE CLA Spirit Day      (specific date TBD).
  • Friday, September 12, Infiniti      of Beachwood will be hosting our Community      Meeting and will have a guest speaker along with giveaways. Please      join us in this celebration at 12:45.

I hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you at Curriculum Night!

Best,
