Breakthrough Public Schools’ Woodland Hills Campus is breaking ground on a transformative $2.9 million facility, including a gymnasium and multipurpose space, offices and restrooms, which will significantly improve student life and educational infrastructure. This project will enhance the campus by:
– Creating a dedicated lunch space for students;
-Expanding programming capabilities; and,
-Establishing a community hub that will also serve as a polling site.
The expansion project, expected to be complete during the 2025-2026 school year, is made possible through Friends of Breakthrough Schools comprehensive fundraising efforts, including generous donations from the Louise H. and Davis S. Ingalls Foundation, the Bruening Foundation and the Thompson Family Foundation, in addition to the Badwater 135 Ultramarathon Donors, spearheaded by Friends of Breakthrough Schools Board member, Larry Orwin.
Orwin helped raise more than $250,000 through his participation in the prestigious Badwater 135 Ultramarathon, known as the world’s toughest footrace. The funds Orwin raised were instrumental in securing the land for the expansion and completing the fundraising necessary for the project to move forward. Sharing that this race is a fitting demonstration of how one can accomplish amazing things through consistent effort and perseverance, Orwin hopes his efforts to support the expansion will be an inspiration to Breakthrough scholars to dream big and always keep trying.
Woodland Hills Campus provides high-quality education for Pre-K through 8th-grade students in Cleveland. Serving 100% low-income scholars, 89% of whom reside in Cleveland, the campus emphasizes academic excellence, critical thinking, and community responsibility.
MEDIA LOGISTICS: Parking is available in the surface lot west of the main building, south of the new gym site. Media and visitors should report to the front office and will be escorted to the current gym for programming.
