Breakthrough Public Schools believes that our families and communities are important partners in helping our scholars learn and grow. Because of this, we focus on building strong relationships and working together with families. Families play a key role in guiding our approach to ensuring our scholars' success.

The main goal of the Family Partnership is to create a way for families and schools to work together as trusted allies. We help schools and families form strong partnerships supporting our academic success commitment. We understand that sharing power with families leads to more collaboration, which helps our scholars achieve great results.

Teresa Kay Brown-Sayles

Director of Family Partnership

Teresa is a former middle-school teacher, turnaround principal, and Director of Instruction with a Master’s degree in Education specializing in Organizational Leadership. With over 20 years of experience in urban education across private, charter, and public school districts, she joins Breakthrough Public Schools as the Director of Family Partnerships. As a founding principal, she led her school to outperform suburban districts on the 3rd-grade Ohio State assessments in math and reading during its first year.

In her new role, Teresa is excited to work with Cleveland families and create opportunities for high-quality education, aiming to empower parents as allies to teachers, ultimately benefiting scholars. She oversees initiatives to enhance family engagement, satisfaction, and support academic success through culturally responsive and equitable practices, family outreach programs, and restorative justice.

Teresa has three adult children and five grandchildren who are the joy of her life.
