Weekly Family Update 4/9/18

Greetings CLA-EAST Families!

We are now in April and have only two months of school remaining.  We are also at the heart of the testing season. This month our scholars will be taking their state assessments as well as their end of the year SLO exams. The data from these assessments will indicate how well we did the school year. In light of the upcoming weeks of testing, we all are preparing ourselves for one of the most stressful times of any school year. Our staff and students have adopted the slogan “The will to do well”. We believe that teachers, staff members, and students, must give their all in order for our school to do well. We hope that you will continue using it at home. Another way to help support the scholars is to join us for a special test-prep pep rally on Monday morning, April 16th at 8:00 am. We will be getting our scholar minds and bodies excited and ready to take the English state assessment which begins on the 17th. Another way to get involved is to write a letter or poem of encouragement and bring it to the school. You can read it at one of the test-prep pep rally’s or just email it to me and I’ll have it read to our scholars then posted around the school. It will take us all to keep our scholars motivated and encouraged over the next several weeks. Please consider joining us because we need each other right now, more than ever!

Yours in Education,

Ricardo Franklin, Sr.

School Culture Updates

This week in light of the testing season, during crew, our scholars will be discussing helpful tips, strategies, and important information about the state assessments. Scholars will quiz one another, learn ways to prepare their body and mind outside of school, and create motivational posters to be hung around the school for their peers in themselves. We would love for you to join us during morning crew anytime this week from 7:45 to 8:15 am.  We also have a special request for parent volunteers throughout the testing season. Moms and Dad’s we would like for you to bring special treats to the school on the mornings of the actual test-taking days and hand out to scholars prior to going in to take their test. Things such as oatmeal grain bars, granola bars, blueberries and bananas, muffins, and fruit juice are healthy brain food snacks our scholars can eat before they begin testing. Dads, there is a special request just for you. We want our dads to come in and be the protectors of the testing environment. Having the presence of strong men in the building to provide mental support for our scholars could be the difference between someone scoring proficient in accelerated.
