About Our High School
Founded in 1915, Hawken School is an independent, nonsectarian, coed day school of 1,582 students on four campuses: Early Childhood, Lower and Middle Schools in Lyndhurst (T-8); the Upper School in Gates Mills (9-12); the Mastery School of Hawken in University Circle (9-12); and the Birchwood School of Hawken on W. 140th in Cleveland (PS-8).
Hawken offers nationally recognized programming and non-traditional schedules to support experiential learning and innovative teaching. Partnerships with world-renowned institutions offer real-world learning opportunities and connect students to local and global communities. Immersive experiences such as entrepreneurship and STEMM instill skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and dynamic world.
The Upper School campus in Gates Mills (grades 9 -12) features a modern academic building with a fabrication lab, a media and communications lab, a science center, and more. The athletic complex includes two gyms and a swimming pool, a ropes course, a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning room, a wrestling room, 8 tennis courts, turf fields, a stadium, and a track. The campus, along with the unique schedule, give the Upper School a college campus feeling.
