Friday Update Regarding School Closures and COVID-19

Dear Breakthrough Families,

As you know, Governor DeWine announced a mandatory three (3) week school closure, effective March, 16, 2020.  However, in the interest of safety and preventing the spread of the virus, we are electing to start the mandatory break after school today, Friday, March, 13th.

To ensure the seamless delivery of important services to our scholars and families, we have the following updates to provide:

Food

Free “Grab-and-Go” student lunches are available M-F from 11:30am - 1:30pm at any Breakthrough school. Scholars will not eat the lunches at school.  More details to follow as we have them. Secondarily, The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is also providing student lunches at their twenty-two (22) sites  throughout the city. Please check their website for updates. https://www.clevelandmetroschools.org/cmsd

Lastly, the Cleveland Public Library plans to provide free meals Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please check https://cpl.org/ for details.

Education

Your scholar(s) received educational packets today, including paper and online resources for continued learning. We will communicate by the end of the day Monday to provide logistics for accessing more educational packets during the 3-week break. We are counting on you to help your scholar continue his/her education using the materials we are sending home.

Medication

If you need to access any medication for your scholar(s), please plan to pick-up on Monday, March,16th during normal school hours. Please contact your school principal to coordinate.

Counseling

Similar to holiday breaks, please feel free to contact your service provider first, if applicable. In the event you have additional questions, contact your school principal directly.

Transportation

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority will honor 7th & 8th grade students' RTA bus passes as usual while schools are closed for three (3) weeks as ordered by Gov. Mike DeWine. RTA also recognizes students may require transportation for health care or other reasons. Please check http://www.riderta.com/ for details.

Coronavirus

Please check The Cleveland Metropolitan District for up-to-date information on the coronavirus.https://www.cdc.gov/norovirus/index.html

Thank you for your patience and support during this time. We will provide more communication by the end of the day Monday.  We are also committed to ongoing communication with you throughout the duration of the extended break. More details to follow.

We are hard at work doing everything we can to support you, our scholars, and our broader school community. As we will continue to say: we will get through this together.
