At Breakthrough Public Schools, we know that learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends. That’s why we offer high-quality, engaging, and enriching after-school programs to support our students and families. Whether your child thrives in academics, arts, or hands-on activities, we have an after-school program that meets their needs.

Through our partnerships with Open Doors Academy,  Rainey Institute, and The YMCA, students have access to homework help, creative enrichment, mentorship, and fun activities in a safe and supportive environment.

Open Doors Academy

If your child is enrolled at Breakthrough's Glenville, Southeast, Midtown, Willard, or Woodland Hills Campus, they can also enroll in Open Doors Academy’s enriching after-school program at NO COST TO YOU!

Open Doors Academy after school programming runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 3pm-5:40pm, and
Wednesday 1pm-5:40pm

Open Doors Academy provides:

Homework help

ELA, Math, Reading and Science.

Fun activities

Games, crafts, movement and more to keep kids active and engaged.

A meal & snack

Healthy foods to keep students energized.

Enrichment programming

Tutoring, Social Emotional Learning, Mentoring, Entrepreneurship, Black History Month, Spelling Bee, International Project, Arts and Crafts, and the Stride Program.

Field trips

Cleveland Museum of Art, Great Lakes Science Center, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and the Metroparks.

Family engagement

Cavs Game and Holiday Christmas Dinner Party, International Festival, Family Game Night, and Entrepreneur Showcase.

ODA Location & Hours

ODA programming is available at the follwing Breakthrough campuses: Glenville, Midtown, Willard, Woodland Hills, and Southeast.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 3pm-5:40pm
Wednesday: 1pm-5:40pm

Transportation

ODA Coordinators conduct programming on-site at BPS campuses for after-school programming.

Bus Transportation is provided or offered by ODA for all of the off site activities.

Rainey Institute

For families at our Midtown or Willard campuses, we partner with Rainey Institute for an art-based afterschool program.

Rainey's art-based after-school programs are mastery-based and taught by a passionate faculty committed to enriching students’ lives through art.

Rainey Institute provides:

Vocal Explorers

Focusing on a different musical genres in a fun and supportive environment.

El Sistema Orchestra

Musicians study violin, viola, cello, or double bass through daily orchestra classes.

Dance

Uplifting the value of dance, inspiring participants to view dance as an equal career and educational opportunity.

Mixed-media art

Students absorb hands-on experiences in Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, and Digital Art (Animation & Game Design).

Theater

A wide-ranging, educational, and fun experience for young performers.

Transportation

Bus transportation will be provided for any Willard & Midtown scholars going to Rainey for after-school programming.

Parents are responsible for picking up their scholar(s) FROM THEIR RAINEY LOCATION.

The YMCA

Starting August 18, 2026 the YMCA’s Y-Club will offer after-school program enrichment at Breakthrough Schools (Glenville, Midtown, Southeast, Willard and Woodland Hills) for scholars in Kindergarten – 8th grade.

The Y-Club after-school program provides a positive approach to youth development, healthy living, and community engagement.

The YMCA Y-Club provides:

Homework Help

Literacy Development, Math and STEM education.

Physical Fitness

Activities that build the mind and the body through movement and sports.

Meals & Snacks

Healthy foods to keep students energized.

Enrichment Programming

Social Emotional Learning, Arts & Crafts, Entrepreneurship, Nutrition, and YMCA Programs.

Family Engagement

Parent Education Workshops and Family Engagement Events at the YMCA.

Location & Hours

The YMCA's Y-Club Programing will be located onsite at all Breakthrough Schools: Glenville, Midtown, Southeast, Willard and Woodland Hills.

Program Cost

A County Voucher and/or a YMCA scholarship may cover the cost of the YMCA’s Y-Club afterschool program for most Breakthrough Families.*

*Families will have to apply for a County Voucher when signing up for The YMCA afterschool program. If they do not qualify for this voucher, they can apply for a YMCA scholarship to cover most, some or all of the cost for the Y-Club afterschool program.
